Practical Training at TVET Institutions Prepares Students for Real-World Challenges – Joyce Murabu says

Parents have been urged to facilitate a smooth transition for students who sat the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams by enrolling them in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

In an interview at Sunrise Training College in Thika, Joyce Murabu, the Managing Director of the institution, highlighted the vital role technical skills play in securing jobs and building sustainable careers for young people.

“Every student who sat the exam has a future, regardless of their grades. Technical skills offer countless opportunities for self-employment and job creation. I urge parents to consider enrolling their children in TVET institutions to acquire practical skills that are highly sought after in the job market,” Murabu said.

She emphasized that no student should be viewed as a failure based solely on exam results. Instead, parents should nurture and guide their children into pathways that align with their strengths and interests.

“The KCSE results have been released, but I urge parents to ensure their children transition smoothly. Regardless of the grades, every student has a bright future ahead if they are guided toward the right programs,” she added.

Murabu also pointed out the social benefits of TVET institutions, noting that they foster national unity by bringing together students from different cultural and regional backgrounds.

“When students join TVET institutions, they interact with peers from all parts of the country. This promotes understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, helping to break barriers of tribalism and ethnicity,” she explained.

At Sunrise Training College, Murabu noted, students receive hands-on training in fields such as caregiving, health sciences, beauty and cosmetology, fashion and design, computing and informatics, engineering and technology, business studies, hospitality, and defensive driving.

“We are committed to equipping our students with the practical skills needed to thrive in a competitive job market. Our programs are designed to offer real-world experience and prepare them for success,” Murabu concluded.
