Practical Training at TVET Institutions Prepares Students for Real-World Challenges – Joyce Murabu says

0

Parents have been urged to facilitate a smooth transition for students who sat the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams by enrolling them in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

In an interview at Sunrise Training College in Thika, Joyce Murabu, the Managing Director of the institution, highlighted the vital role technical skills play in securing jobs and building sustainable careers for young people.

“Every student who sat the exam has a future, regardless of their grades. Technical skills offer countless opportunities for self-employment and job creation. I urge parents to consider enrolling their children in TVET institutions to acquire practical skills that are highly sought after in the job market,” Murabu said.

She emphasized that no student should be viewed as a failure based solely on exam results. Instead, parents should nurture and guide their children into pathways that align with their strengths and interests.

“The KCSE results have been released, but I urge parents to ensure their children transition smoothly. Regardless of the grades, every student has a bright future ahead if they are guided toward the right programs,” she added.

Murabu also pointed out the social benefits of TVET institutions, noting that they foster national unity by bringing together students from different cultural and regional backgrounds.

“When students join TVET institutions, they interact with peers from all parts of the country. This promotes understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, helping to break barriers of tribalism and ethnicity,” she explained.

At Sunrise Training College, Murabu noted, students receive hands-on training in fields such as caregiving, health sciences, beauty and cosmetology, fashion and design, computing and informatics, engineering and technology, business studies, hospitality, and defensive driving.

“We are committed to equipping our students with the practical skills needed to thrive in a competitive job market. Our programs are designed to offer real-world experience and prepare them for success,” Murabu concluded.

Suspects Linked to IEBC Offficial’s Murder Arrested

0

Three suspects linked to the gruesome attack and murder of Kilifi County IEBC official Ms Aisha Abubakar on January 5, 2025 have been arrested by detectives, and from them several exhibits recovered.

Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari and Bryan Templer Oyare were flushed from their hideouts in separate but coordinated operations within the coastal region, following 7 days of rigorous manhunt for perpetrators of the 3am daring robbery.

On the fateful morning, the deceased and her son were woken from their dead sleep by an unestablished number of home invaders, who forced entry into the abode by cutting the grills of the kitchen window.

Armed with crude weapons, the assailants knocked the son out before stabbing the home owner severally amidst desperate pleas not to take her dear life.

As she bled her life out, the cold-blooded attackers made away with a number of valuables including two Samsung phones, an iPad, 65″ TV set, sound system, and ATM cards whose PINs they had demanded.

Good Samaritans who heard the commotion and thronged the scene made frantic efforts to save her life by rushing her to Premier Hospital in Nyali, but she was declared dead on arrival.

DCI Kisauni took over the investigation, backed up by the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau hawkshaws.

On Monday, a meticulous forensic analysis saw the three suspects arrested, in the course of which one of the stolen phones belonging to the deceased’s son and other crucial exhibits were recovered.

Some of the officials who benefited from the extortion spree have gone into hiding but a middle aged man who parted with a lot of money is considering taking legal action and willing to be a witness in pursuit of justice.

Some of the victims are inviting the DCI and EACC to separately pursue the matter.

Being recognized as the fastest-growing land selling company is a huge milestone, and it motivates us to continue delivering value to our customers. It shows that our approach is resonating with people, and we’re excited to build on this momentum.

Q: Cledun Realtors Ltd specializes in selling land. How has the company been able to stand out in such a competitive market?

Clement Waweru (CEO):
One of the key factors that set us apart is our focus on affordability and customer satisfaction. While many real estate companies sell both homes and land, we’ve chosen to specialize in land because we believe it’s a fundamental asset that provides long-term security and growth potential.

We’ve also worked hard to identify areas with high potential for future development, like Thika, Makutano, Laikipia, and certain parts of Nairobi.

These areas offer affordable land, and we ensure that the land we sell is not only a good investment today but will also increase in value over time. Our customers trust us to provide transparent, reliable, and high-quality land options, and that’s been key to our growth.

Q: Why is land ownership such a significant part of your business, and what do you believe makes it so important for the people you serve?

Clement Waweru (CEO):
Land ownership is the foundation of wealth in Kenya. It offers people the opportunity to build homes, start businesses, or simply secure their future. However, for many, purchasing land has been a distant dream due to high prices or lack of financing options. At Cledun, we’ve made it our mission to make land ownership accessible to everyone, particularly people from middle and low-income backgrounds.

We believe in offering prime land in emerging areas that are not only affordable but will appreciate in value. This means that our clients are not just buying a piece of land—they’re making a sound investment for their future and potentially that of their families. We’re giving people the opportunity to build a legacy.

Q: Cledun Realtors Ltd operates in several areas, including Thika, Nairobi, Makutano, and Laikipia. What makes these regions ideal for land investment?

Clement Waweru (CEO):
Each of these areas presents unique opportunities. Thika, for instance, is experiencing rapid growth as more people relocate from Nairobi due to its proximity and affordable living options. Similarly, Nairobi’s peripheral areas are becoming increasingly attractive as people seek affordable land closer to the city without paying premium prices.

Makutano and Laikipia County are emerging as new hubs for investment, with expanding infrastructure and growing industries. These areas have a lot of untapped potential, and we’ve made it our mission to identify prime land in these regions. When you buy land here, you’re not just securing property; you’re securing your stake in a region that is poised for significant growth.

Q: Winning the Fastest Growing Land Selling Company award is a huge achievement. What do you think has driven this growth, and how do you plan to maintain it?

Clement Waweru (CEO):
Our growth can be attributed to several factors. First, our commitment to providing affordable and high-quality land in prime locations has resonated with customers. Secondly, we’ve made the buying process as seamless as possible, offering flexible payment plans that cater to different financial needs.

Another factor is our transparency and honesty in every transaction. People trust us because they know we have their best interests at heart. We also listen to our clients, ensuring that we offer land in areas that meet their needs and budget.

To maintain this growth, we’re focusing on expanding our portfolio and ensuring that we continue to offer land that is not only affordable but also strategically located for future growth. We’re also investing in technology to streamline the buying process and improve our customer service.

Q: Clement, as a leader, what would you say to someone who’s considering buying land but might be hesitant due to financial concerns or uncertainty in the market?

Clement Waweru (CEO):
I would tell them that land is one of the most stable investments you can make. While the real estate market can fluctuate, land has always been a secure asset, particularly in the long term. At Cledun, we help ease the financial burden by offering flexible payment plans, and we guide our customers every step of the way to ensure that they make informed decisions.

If you’re unsure, start small. We have options that cater to a range of budgets, and with the right guidance, you can gradually build your investment portfolio. Land ownership is a journey, and we’re here to make that journey as accessible and stress-free as possible.

Q: What’s next for Cledun Realtors Ltd? What are your future plans for expansion?

Clement Waweru (CEO):
We’re focused on continuing our expansion into more regions across the country.

There are several untapped areas where land prices are still relatively affordable, and we want to be at the forefront of unlocking those opportunities for our clients. We’re also working on more partnerships with financial institutions to provide even more affordable financing options.

As we grow, we’re also enhancing our customer experience by investing in technology that makes buying land easier and more efficient. Our goal is to continue leading the way in making land ownership accessible to all Kenyans, regardless of their income level.

Kenya Culture Centre Chairman Kungu Muigai suffers blow after court revokes his appointment

0

Kenya Culture Centre Chairman Kungu Muigai has suffered a blow after the court revoked his appointment.

This comes after City Lawyer Henry Kurauka, on behalf of David Njoe, the petitioner, had made an application to quash that appointment saying that it was hurriedly and illegally done contrary to the law.

In court papers, Kurauka sued Muigai alongside the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and the Arts, the Attorney General and the Kenya Cultural Centre.

It was his submission to the court that Mr. Muigai’s appointment violated Article 75 of the constitution and he was not fit to hold office.

“Captain Muigai is not fit to hold office since he does not meet the integrity threshold set under article 10 of the constitution. He was deported from India and USA due to his undesired action,” Kurauka told the court.

Lawyer Henry Kurauka

Kurauka further told the court that Captain Muigai’s appointment was not subjected to public participation procedures and the principles of equity, transparency, merit and competitiveness.

The advocate outlined many other areas to prove that Muigai’s appointment was an illegal procedure.

In response, Muigai told the court that his appointment was legally done as per the law by the first respondent urging the court to dismiss it in totality.

While delivering her judgement, Justice Hellen Mugambi said that the appointment of Muigai was illegal and unprocedural, adding that the petitioner’s case succeeded and hence dismissed Muigai’s defence.

“A declaration that the first respondent action of appointing the Capt. Kungu Muigai as the chairman of the Kenya Cultural Centre Council with effect from Jan 20, 2023, is an arbitrary act that contravenes section 3 (3) of the Kenyan Cultural Act read with section 6(1) and violates the principle of the rule of law under article 10 (2) (a) of the constitution, ” said the Judge.

The judge also ruled that the appointment of Muigai, with effect from Jan 20, 2023, is invalid, null and void.
