Three weeks to the Orange Democratic Movement Party nominations, candidates intending to fly its flag in the next General Elections are still in the dark on the mode that will be used to pick the flag bearer in Siaya.

The candidates, led by a contender for the Siaya gubernatorial seat, lawyer George Mugoye Mbeya, is challenging the party headquarters to come out openly on the method that will be used during the primaries slated for early April.

Addressing the media in Siaya town, where he had a breakfast meeting with the business community, Mugoye said it was high time the Party Headquarters assured its members that the exercise will be conducted in a fair, simple and democratic manner.

“They should give the method and procedure that will be used during the nominations. They need to be clear that the exercise will be conducted in a fairly, simple and democratic manner devoid of corruption, favoritism and class or dynasties,” said Mugoye, adding that the candidates are in the dark and do not know whether the flag bearers, will be selected through opinion polling, consensus or universal suffrage where members will be allowed to vote for the best.

The aspirant further called on Siaya ODM officials to ensure that fidelity reigns during nominations, adding that the whole country will be watching how the exercise will be conducted in the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga’s, county of birth.

“We have to set example for other counties to follow, devoid of which there will be consequences on the presidential exercise,” said the high court lawyer.

Meanwhile, another gubernatorial aspirant, Bella Akinyi called on Siaya residents to give women a chance in leadership.

Speaking during the launch of her bid to become Siaya governor at Sirongo in Bondo Sub county, Akinyi said women had over the years proved to be good managers compared to their male counterparts and should not be left behind.

The former United Nations employee said the County was in serious need of infrastructure and industries to spur economic growth, adding that under her leadership, Siaya will make great strides.

Siaya governor’s seat has so far attracted four aspirants, Senator James Orengo, Lawyer George Mugoye Mbeya, former Police Spokesman, Charles Owino and Bella Akinyi all of whom will be seeking to fly the ODM party ticket while former Rarieda MP, Nicholas Gumbo is also eyeing the same seat but is yet to announce his party.

ODM has slated the party primaries in Siaya for 6th April, 2022.
