Police in Homa Bay are pursuing a suspect who stabbed a 25-year-old man in a fight at a bar within the town on Sunday night.

The victim identified as Roy Otieno succumbed to injuries sustained on his lower abdomen on Monday evening while receiving treatment at the County referral hospital.

Homa Bay town location senior chief Joshua Ochogo explained that the deceased had been trying to separate two men who were fighting at the bar within Homa bay town before he was stabbed on the abdomen.

“Otieno was only trying to separate the two men who were fighting over unknown reasons inside a bar when he was stabbed on the abdomen. He was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for treatment where he died on Monday,” said Ochogo.

He added that the suspect had managed to escape after committing the heinous act but his counterpart was cornered by a mob at Shauri Yako estate on Monday evening.

The mob accused him of being responsible for the death of Roy but was rescued by police officers who had rushed to the scene. They apprehended him.

Confirming the incident, Homa Bay County Commander Esther Serenoi explained that the suspect is in custody and would assist in further investigation on the matter.

“We are in pursuit of the main suspect who is still at large and we expect that his counterpart in our custody will play a huge role in the investigation,” said Seronei.

The body of the deceased was moved to the county referral hospital morgue.
