Tension is building high at Makima ward in Mbeere South Subcounty, Embu county, ahead of Wednesday’s meeting organised by former MP Mutava Musyimi, whose purpose is to allegedly plan subdivision of Mwea settlement scheme.
This comes after Ngome council of elders agreed to subdivide the land without regional consent and without involving the locals settled in the land.
It is alleged that land cartels and investors who fueled the evictions of locals from Tarda land are among the organizers of tomorrow’s meeting.
The said investors are claimed to have piled pressure for the exercise of subdivision on Mwea land and leasing of Tarda land to investors to be completed before August election.
Mutava, the former MP, had publicly proposed that a new Subcounty be created so that it can be easy to subdivide Mwea settlement scheme.
A meeting is alleged to have been held in the Subcounty to effect the subdivision.
Locals within the locality are said to have been invited to tomorrow’s meeting which has been baptised as public participation to approve the creation of new district then give leeway for subdivision of the settlement scheme.
A source privy to the meeting hinted that soon locals who had been evicted from Tarda land in Ndunguni may soon be evicted to give way for investors to invest in the land.
Locals living in Tarda land in Makima had been evicted and their houses demolished in broad daylight subjecting them to suffering.
They camped at Ndunguni primary school for almost a month.
Some residents in the area led by area MCA Philip Nzangi have blamed the timing of the issue by the former MP who is also contesting Mbeere South MP seat.
Kioko Mutunga, a resident on Makima, said that the issue is thorny and they have enjoyed peace for the last four years and the issue is carelessly being handled badly and it may cause animosity between locals.
Ngome council of elders have blasted Mutava in two press conferences accusing him of trying to go against the will of the people.
Some political operators observe that the entrance of Mutava in the Jubilee party was a well-calculated move to achieve certain agenda.
The locals living on the land fear an eminent displacement from the land before next election.
Mutava has severally been quoted saying that he was going to push for the cancellation of the titles and conduct fresh reallocation.
He is also alleged to have stated that Kirinyaga people are bonafide beneficiaries of the land and that vowing to bring clans from Kirinyaga to subdivide the land.
A section of Ngome council of elders led by a former DC have said that Kirinyaga people cannot be wished away and that it was a selfish act to lock Kirinyaga people out of the land.
The elders said that the process of subdivision of the land was complete and titles issued.
Fate of the investors in Tarda land in Makima remains a mystery.
