Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stood in solidarity with families affected by the tragic flooding in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, which occurred following the breach of the Old Kijabe Dam.

Accompanied by a group of leaders, including Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Gachagua visited the devastated area to firsthand assess the damage caused by the flooding.

The flooding has resulted in a significant humanitarian crisis, marked by loss of life and widespread displacement.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua extended heartfelt sympathies to the affected families across the nation, stating, “On behalf of President William Samoei Ruto and the entire Government, I send our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost loved ones in this unfortunate incident in Mai Mahiu and the rest of the country and those who have been displaced.”

Gachagua commended the prompt response of the County Government of Nakuru, Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara, MCAs, the National Youth Service, and other stakeholders in addressing the crisis.

He described the damage witnessed in the flood-hit area, saying, “I visited the strip that was hit hard by the raging waters at Mai Mahiu; the damage is deep and devastating. It has also triggered a massive humanitarian crisis akin to what has been witnessed in other parts of our Nation as the enhanced rains leave trails of death, destruction and displacements. Nature’s fury is immeasurable.”
