Man chopped off his hand in Tongaren as he cut grass for livestock

Residents of Simana Village in Ndalu,Tongaren Sub-County, were left in shock after a violent attack in which a man’s left hand was severed at the wrist during a dispute.

According to a report seen at Kiminini Police Station, the incident occurred at around 11:44 am. when the victim, identified as Yusuf Wanjala, was cutting grass for livestock.

It is alleged that a neighbour, Wycliffe John Barasa, confronted and attacked him, chopping off his left hand.

His sister, Sarah Wanjala, who made the report, said the family was alerted by screams and rushed to the scene only to find Yusuf bleeding profusely and in critical condition.

Police officers led by the OCS Kiminini responded swiftly and assisted in rushing the victim to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital.

They carried the severed hand in an attempt to preserve it for possible surgical reattachment

A manhunt has been launched for the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Police are also searching for the weapon used.

The motive behind the assault is yet to be established, but authorities have assured that the suspect will be arrested and charged once apprehended.
