A noticeably low turnout of youths seeking to join the National Police Service was recorded today at the Nanyuki Stadium, where the nationwide recruitment exercise for Laikipia County took place.
The exercise, conducted simultaneously across all 47 counties, aims to enlist 10,000 new police officers as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security and staffing levels in the service.
Speaking to the KNA, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Monica Berege expressed concern over the reduced number of applicants compared to previous recruitment years.
“The turnout was not high like previous times. I don’t know if they were not aware or not, but I have noticed the number of those seeking to be enlisted in the Police Service is low,” SSP Berege noted.
She further revealed that many of the candidates who did turn up were disqualified during the physical and medical screening stages, mainly due to short stature and issues related to walking gait.
