MUA Insurance Kenya Joins Private Sector Coalition Against Corruption

MUA Insurance Kenya has joined The Blue Company Project, a private sector-led coalition aimed at promoting collective anti-corruption action across the economy, as businesses face mounting pressure to strengthen transparency and accountability practices.

The move comes amid growing concern over the prevalence of corruption in Kenya. According to data from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), more than half of Kenyans report having witnessed bribery, while nearly one in three say they have encountered it directly.

Recent surveys further indicate that about a quarter of citizens were asked to pay a bribe within the past year. The average bribe amount rose sharply to approximately KSh 6,724 in 2025, representing a 38 percent increase from KSh 4,878 recorded the previous year.

Corruption risks remain prevalent across both public and private sectors, including financial services, underscoring the need for companies to adopt stronger governance and compliance measures.

MUA Kenya said its decision to join the coalition reflects its commitment to positioning integrity as a core business principle guiding governance structures, internal controls and corporate culture.

“Joining The Blue Company Project reinforces our belief that the private sector has both the responsibility and capacity to lead in addressing corruption. We are keen on ensuring that every decision we make reflects transparency and accountability, with integrity remaining a core operational element for our business and associations,” said Nixon Shigoli, Country CEO and Principal Officer at MUA Insurance (Kenya) Limited.

Kenya has in recent years intensified efforts to combat corruption through enforcement and preventive initiatives. The EACC reported that it prevented losses amounting to more than KSh 16.5 billion during the 2024/2025 financial year through various interventions.

However, experts and business leaders argue that enforcement alone is insufficient to curb corruption, emphasizing the importance of embedding ethical practices within corporate culture.

MUA Kenya said its partnership with organizations across multiple industries through The Blue Company Project aligns with its broader ambition to contribute to a growing movement focused on rebuilding trust and promoting ethical business practices in the Kenyan market.
