Electronics manufacturer LG Electronics East Africa has teamed up with MultiChoice to launch a new reality television series aimed at demonstrating how technology can improve community service delivery while spotlighting local changemakers.
The six-part series, Make Life Good, will premiere on June 13 on Maisha Magic East (DStv Channel 158), marking a strategic shift by the consumer electronics giant from traditional product advertising to storytelling centered on social impact and community transformation.
Hosted by South African television personality Jessica Nkosi, the programme follows six accomplished professionals and public figures as they orchestrate surprise 24-hour makeovers for charitable organisations and community leaders who have played a significant role in their lives.
The featured personalities include mountaineer Saray Khumalo, former footballer William Okpara, entrepreneur Thandi Mavata, data and analytics executive Esther Munyi, public relations executive Perpetual Kendi and filmmaker Adze Ugah.
Each episode centres on the rapid transformation of facilities serving vulnerable communities, with organisers given just 24 hours to upgrade spaces and address operational challenges faced by volunteers and beneficiaries.
The renovations feature LG’s latest premium appliances and smart technologies, including its 100-inch QNED evo AI televisions, OLED displays, InstaView refrigerators, QuadWash dishwashers, AI-powered washing machines and DualCool+ air conditioning systems.
According to LG, the initiative is designed to demonstrate how technology can improve efficiency in community facilities, from food preparation centres and children’s homes to youth training hubs and school sports programmes.
Phil Jung, Chief Executive Officer for LG’s Middle East and Africa region, said the project aligns with the company’s “Life’s Good” philosophy of using technology to enhance everyday life.
“With Make Life Good, we wanted to move beyond product specifications and celebrate authentic human stories while showing how technology can support meaningful change,” he said.
The programme also reflects growing interest among brands in purpose-driven content that resonates with local audiences and highlights social impact rather than product promotion alone.
MultiChoice’s Head of Unscripted Content, Mbali Ntuli, described the series as “reality television with purpose,” noting that it celebrates community leaders and organisations whose work often goes unnoticed.
LG Electronics East Africa President Donghun Lee said the company hopes the series will amplify stories of individuals and organisations making a difference across the continent.
“Across Africa, there are countless people creating positive change every day. This programme gives them a platform and demonstrates how innovation can help them expand their impact,” he said.
The series will air every Saturday on Maisha Magic East, with a repeat broadcast on Maisha Magic Plus.
Industry analysts say the partnership reflects a broader trend among consumer brands seeking deeper engagement with audiences through locally produced content that combines entertainment, social impact and product demonstration.
For LG, the programme provides a platform to showcase its premium product range while reinforcing its brand positioning around innovation, community empowerment and practical solutions for everyday challenges.
