The spirit of football and community transformation took centre stage on June 21 as the third edition of the Dela Sports Foundation Legendary Tournament came to a successful conclusion at Del Monte Local 20 in Thika, drawing players, supporters, and partners united by a shared vision of change through sport.
What began as a local initiative by Dela Sports founder Patrick Dela has steadily evolved into one of the region’s most anticipated grassroots competitions, with this year’s edition once again showcasing football’s power to unite communities, nurture talent, and drive social impact.
The semi-final stage produced intense action as Pamoja FC faced Community Elite in a tightly contested opener. The match ended level in regular time before Community Elite held their nerve in the shootout, winning 4-3 on penalties to secure a place in the final.
In the second semi-final, Destiny Veterans battled Legacy, with Legacy delivering a dominant performance to seal a convincing 4-1 victory in normal play, booking their spot in the championship match.
The final between Community Elite and Legacy lived up to expectations, producing a tense and competitive encounter that stretched beyond regular time. In the end, Community Elite emerged victorious, edging Legacy 4-2 on penalties to lift the trophy and crown a memorable tournament campaign.
The event was supported by Newsline Media, Saraya Hospital, and KE7, whose contributions played a key role in elevating the tournament’s professionalism and reach.
Newsline Media provided extensive publicity and coverage, Saraya Hospital ensured medical support for players and fans throughout the event, while KE7 supplied jerseys to participating teams, boosting morale and adding a professional touch to the competition.
Speaking during the final, founder Patrick Dela said the tournament has grown beyond sport into a platform for unity and empowerment.
“From the very beginning, our dream has been to use football as a tool to bring people together and transform lives. Every year we see communities unite, friendships formed, and young talent given a chance to shine,” said Dela.
He added that the success of the tournament reflects the power of collaboration between communities and partners committed to social development.
Saraya Hospital representative Dr. Philip T. Wanjiku praised the initiative, noting that healthcare and sport share a common goal of building healthier communities.
“We are proud to partner with Dela Sports because we share the same vision of transformation. Sports inspire discipline and unity, and we are committed to supporting such initiatives,” he said.
