Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said construction of the 67-kilometre Thika–Magumu Mau Mau road linking Kiambu and Nyandarua counties is progressing on schedule, with 31 kilometres completed so far.

The KSh3.4 billion project is part of the government’s broader road infrastructure programme in Kiambu County, where 1,285 kilometres of roads have been earmarked for tarmacking at a projected cost of KSh152 billion.

Speaking during an inspection of government development projects in Gatundu North on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Kindiki said the road would improve connectivity between the two counties and support economic activities along the route.

“The construction of the 67-kilometer Thika-Magumu Mau Mau Roads at a cost of 3.4 billion shillings is on schedule, with 31 kilometers of the road that connects Kiambu and Nyandarua Counties done,” Kindiki said.

The Deputy President also pointed to other major transport infrastructure projects, including the Rironi–Mau Summit Road, the Thika–Nairobi Expressway and the Muthaiga–Kiambu dual carriageway, which he said would contribute to transforming Kiambu’s economy.

The projects are expected to improve movement between residential areas, commercial centres and neighbouring counties, although their overall economic impact will depend on timely completion, road quality and accessibility for businesses and residents.

During the inspection, Kindiki directed supervisory personnel to ensure that construction works meet the required quality standards and are completed within the scheduled timelines.

He also called for the use of locally available labour and construction materials, a move intended to increase local participation in infrastructure development.

The Thika–Magumu road is among the projects expected to strengthen transport links between Kiambu and Nyandarua, potentially easing the movement of agricultural produce and other goods to markets.

Kindiki was accompanied by Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a and other local leaders during the inspection.
