Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government is spending KSh65 million to connect an additional 772 households to electricity in Gatundu North Constituency, Kiambu County.
The project is part of the government’s last-mile electricity connectivity programme, which seeks to expand access to power and enable more households to benefit from electricity services.
Kindiki announced the investment on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, during an inspection of national government development projects in Gatundu North, where he also addressed residents at Gachege Centre.
The allocation translates to an average of approximately KSh84,200 per household, although the actual connection costs may vary depending on the infrastructure required in different locations.
Expanded electricity access is expected to support household activities, improve opportunities for small businesses and enable residents to use electrical appliances and digital services.

For traders and entrepreneurs, reliable power can also create opportunities to operate businesses that depend on electricity, including barbershops, retail shops, salons and small-scale production enterprises.
The announcement comes alongside other development projects in the constituency, including fresh produce markets, road construction and plans to build a student hostel at Mang’u Technical and Vocational College.
Kindiki said the government was pursuing infrastructure investments alongside measures to improve farmer incomes through the coffee, tea and dairy value chains.
During the visit, he was accompanied by Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, 14 Members of County Assembly, professionals and other local leaders.
The announcement did not specify the locations of all 772 households, the implementation timeline or the expected completion date for the electricity connections.
