APA Apollo Foundation Extends Scholarships as It Celebrates 20 Years of Educational Support

The APA Apollo Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to education in Kenya by extending scholarships to two former pupils of Chelata Primary School, marking 20 years of sustained investment in learning.

The latest beneficiaries of the bursary programme are Patience Mwikali Mutavi and Joel Omwoha Oriedo, both alumni of Chelata Primary School. The support is designed to ensure a smooth transition for high-performing learners from primary to secondary education and beyond.

Chelata Primary School is located in the Runda area of Nairobi County and serves learners from the neighbouring Githogoro community. Through the bursary programme, the Foundation has consistently supported students from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering not only financial assistance but also long-term educational guidance.

Speaking on the milestone, Grace Nganga-Macharia, Group Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing at APA Apollo Group, said the Foundation’s work is driven by a strong belief in the transformative power of education.

“We believe that the world of tomorrow can only thrive when we prioritise the education, protection and well-being of the children of today. That belief has guided us for the last 20 years and continues to shape every life we touch,” she said.

Since the programme’s inception, 58 students have benefited from the bursaries. Many have gone on to receive university sponsorships and internship opportunities, underscoring the Foundation’s holistic approach to nurturing future leaders.

Beyond scholarships, the APA Apollo Foundation has also invested in improving learning infrastructure. In September last year, the Foundation supported Chelata Primary School by re-roofing classrooms to enhance the learning environment. Previously, lessons were often disrupted by flooding and noise during rainy seasons. The new roof has enabled uninterrupted learning throughout the year.

Education remains a core pillar of the Foundation’s social investment strategy, with KSh 8 million committed to education initiatives to date. As a result of this sustained support, Chelata Primary School has recorded improved academic performance and above-average transition rates to secondary school, expanding opportunities for learners from the Githogoro community.

Through continued investment at critical stages of education, the APA Apollo Foundation aims to empower confident, capable young people who can contribute meaningfully to their communities and to Kenya’s long-term development.
