Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale held a significant bilateral meeting with a high-level delegation from the United States, led by Chargé d’Affaires H.E. Marc Dillard.
The discussions centered on deepening strategic health collaboration between the two nations and reviewing the substantial United States assistance currently supporting Kenya’s health sector.
CS Aden Duale was accompanied by the Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth; the Director of Family Health, Dr. Bashir; and the Head of NASCOP, Dr. Andrew Mulwa.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key areas aligned with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, including health and information systems.
CS Aden Duale expressed his profound appreciation for the enduring partnership with the United States, particularly highlighting the impactful contributions through initiatives like the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and programs implemented by PEPFAR, USAID, and the CDC.
“We deeply value the support of the United States in our efforts to improve the health and well-being of Kenyans,” stated Duale.
“The impact of programs like PEPFAR has been transformative. We have witnessed a remarkable decline in mother-to-child HIV, TB, and malaria transmission from 21% in 2010 to 7.3% in 2023, and a significant reduction in AIDS-related deaths from 52,000 to 20,480.”
The United States delegation, led by Chargé d’Affaires Dillard, affirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Kenya’s health priorities and UHC goals.
