Ethiopian Man With Hooded Face Seized at Mandera Huduma Centre on Terror Suspicion

Security officers in Mandera East on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old Ethiopian national suspected of being a terrorist.

Negesa Abdullahi Bariso was nabbed after he was found loitering suspiciously around the Huduma Centre while concealing his face with a white leso.

He was arrested by police from Mandera police station and handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) after preliminary checks indicated that his intentions at the government facility remained unclear.

Officers say the manner in which he covered his face raised fears that he could have been on a mission to collect intelligence for possible terrorism related activities.

His mobile phone has been secured and will be forwarded to the ATPU ICT forensics lab for data extraction and analysis to establish any terror links.

A multi-agency interrogation has also been lined up as part of the investigation.
