Gachagua Hails DCP’s ‘Newborn Triplets’ After Surprise Wins in By-Elections

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has praised his Democratic Congress Party (DCP) for what he describes as a strong showing in the November 27 by-elections, declaring the outfit “the newest kid on the block” after clinching three out of five contested seats.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Gachagua said the results marked an important milestone for the young party, which only made its debut on the national political stage earlier this year.

He expressed gratitude to voters across the country who backed DCP candidates, saying their support signalled growing confidence in the party’s message and political direction.

“Our party is the newest kid on the block; we are eternally grateful to Kenyans who have shown us great support and trust by voting our candidates in Kakamega, Nairobi and Narok, with great support in Kilifi and Kajiado counties,” Gachagua said.

DCP fielded candidates in five by-elections and won three seats—victories the former DP described as historic for the fledgling movement.

The winners, Hon. Douglas Masikonde, Hon. Aduda Okwiri and Hon. David Wanyoike, were hosted at the party headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday.

“It was great receiving you today at our party headquarters in Nairobi; you are our newborn triplets! When the history of DCP will be written, you will feature prominently,” Gachagua told the three leaders.

Despite the celebrations, the party also raised concerns about alleged electoral malpractice in some areas. Gachagua claimed that in Magarini and Purko Ward, DCP candidates suffered irregularities that affected the final outcome.

“In Magarini and Purko Ward, we came a close second despite voter suppression, state-sponsored violence, goons, vote stealing by the Kenyan notorious thief you all know and his brood of vipers of this despotic regime,” he alleged, without naming individuals.

Although the former DP did not provide evidence to support the accusations, his sentiments add to an increasingly tense political environment as parties reorganise ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua urged the victorious candidates to remain steadfast in representing their communities while upholding the party’s values.

“To our winners, congratulations once again and represent your people as you stand by our philosophy as a party,” he said.

DCP’s performance has put the party on the radar as a potential disruptor in Kenya’s evolving political landscape, especially as it positions itself to challenge more established outfits in the run-up to 2027.
