Gun Battle Erupts Between Two Communities in Transmara South as Homes and 30 Acre Sugarcane Farm Go Up in Flames

Tension is reportedly high in Narok County after a fierce shoot out between two communities in Transmara county.

The exchange of fire erupted on Tuesday evening in Enkoperiai Sub-Location, Transmara South.

According to a report filed at Angata Barrikoi Police Station by the Assistant Chief Robert Kirui is that he alerted authorities at around 4:00pm after continuous gunshots were heard from a village in the area.

Officers from the ASTU Angata camp immediately rushed to the scene.

Police found the two communities engaged in a heavy exchange of gunfire at the homestead of one Samwel Lang’at, a confrontation that lasted close to an hour. In the chaos that followed, Maasai morans reportedly torched three semi-permanent houses, reducing them to ashes.

In retaliation, members of the Kipsigis community set ablaze a 30-acre sugarcane plantation belonging to a Maasai landowner but leased to Angata Sugar Factory. By the time police filed the report, the fire was still raging across the vast sugarcane field.

Maasai morans later retreated to their homes as officers continued to monitor the situation. No casualties had been reported at the time of filing, though the incident remains under investigation. Police say a follow-up report will provide further details as the matter is being treated as pending under investigation (P.U.I).
