Nairobi, Kenya — Prominent human rights defender and city lawyer Yashim Butende has hinted at joining the race for a leadership position in the upcoming Law Society of Kenya (LSK) elections.
Reports circulating on social media and within legal circles suggest that Butende is preparing to contest for the position of General Member in the society’s next polls.
“Yes, lawyer Yashim will be contesting for the position of General Member at the Law Society of Kenya in the next elections,” a close associate confirmed.
According to posts shared online, Butende is described as a dedicated and principled advocate, deeply committed to upholding integrity and advancing the legal profession.
Despite his relatively young age, the lawyer has built a reputation as a fearless defender of human rights, often taking a stand against abductions and rights violations. Through numerous court petitions, he has also been instrumental in the fight against corruption and impunity in the country.
When reached for comment, Butende confirmed his intentions but said an official announcement would be made soon.
“Everything will be done in a procedural manner. The Law Society of Kenya deserves better leadership,” he said, adding that his campaign would adhere strictly to the law.
The forthcoming LSK elections are expected to attract several prominent figures from the legal community as the society prepares for a new leadership team.
