MASHUJAA DAY HEROES: Dr. Catherine Nyongesa Celebrated as a Woman Who Brought Hope to Cancer Patients in Kenya

Several Kenyans have taken to share a social media post to celebrate respected Kenyan Dr. Catherine Nyongesa claiming that she has brought alot hope to Cancer Patients.

Dr.Nyongesa is the Kenya’s first female radiation oncologist and the founder of Texas Cancer Centre in Nairobi.

 

She was Born in Kenya around 1970 and grew up in humble beginnings and attended local Kenyan schools before joining the University of Nairobi School of Medicine, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).

Her dream to fight cancer took her beyond borders. In 2002, she joined the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa for a three-year residency in Radiation Oncology, graduating in 2005 with a Master of Medicine (MMed). Later, she was elected a Fellow of the College of Radiation Oncologists of South Africa (FCRO (SA)) — a prestigious recognition of her expertise.

But instead of staying abroad, Dr. Nyongesa chose to return home determined to make cancer care accessible to ordinary Kenyans.

In 2010, she founded Texas Cancer Centre, which has since treated thousands of patients, offering affordable, compassionate care to those who had nowhere else to turn.

Experts believes that Her journey is proof that excellence and empathy can grow from humble beginnings.
