The Pan African Network Group (PANG) is spearheading the rollout of a Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Pilot Project in Kakuma Ward, Turkana County, with the goal of improving digital access and expanding the scope of Kenya’s broadcasting system.
The program, supported by the Universal Service Fund (USF) and overseen by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), aims at underserved regions where the expansion of commercial broadcasting has been limited because of expensive infrastructure costs.
County officials held a stakeholder engagement meeting last week with national government representatives, education leaders, local authorities, and community members to assess the project’s implementation strategy and its possible economic impacts.
During the event, Tamima Ibrahim, General Manager of Pan African Network Group (PANG), noted that the pilot signifies a significant progress in enhancing broadcast signal distribution to developing markets.
“Investing in infrastructure in underdeveloped regions such as Turkana yields enduring advantages for the entire broadcasting network.” “Tamima stated adding that broadening signal coverage lays the groundwork for improved content access, expanded advertising opportunities, and greater involvement in the digital economy.”
She noted that the project seeks to promote local economic development by improving access to free television, enabling information sharing, expanding educational chances, and reinforcing connectivity.
She noted that once operational, the DTT pilot is anticipated to provide residents with over 500 television and radio services, significantly enhancing access to news, educational resources, government details, and public service content
