Police Free Rongai Man Held Hostage in Kandisi Thickets

A dramatic early-morning police operation in Ongata Rongai on Saturday resulted in the successful rescue of a 32 year old man who had been held hostage by a three man gang in the dense bushes along the Kandisi riverbank.

Police officers from Ongata Rongai Police Station launched a swift search and rescue mission after receiving intelligence reports on the victim’s whereabouts.

The victim, Kevin Ogombe Wanyama, was found tied up and injured, with visible wounds on his left hand and the back of his head.

The suspects escaped into nearby thickets upon spotting the advancing officers.

Police say the gang had demanded Sh 200,000 as ransom.

In panic and desperation, the victim’s father, Mr. Frederick Okumu, managed to send Sh 50,000 to his son’s mobile number after the kidnappers forced the victim to reveal his PIN.

The gang further robbed the victim of a mobile phone worth Sh 13,000,safety boots,a black bag containing electrical tools and his national identity card.

The rescued victim was immediately rushed to Ongata Rongai Subcounty Hospital for medical attention.

Police have said that they are pursuing the fleeing suspects.
