President William Ruto has pledged KSh1 million each to popular street boxing sensations Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer ahead of their highly anticipated showdown scheduled for April 4, 2026.
In addition to the cash reward, the President also promised to sponsor 2,000 tickets to allow fans to attend the bout, a move that has further heightened public interest in the event.
The pledge was made on Sunday after the Head of State was briefed on the growing popularity of the fight, which has gained traction both on social media and among boxing fans across the country.
“This is about recognising talent at the grassroots and showing our young people that with discipline and hard work, they can create a livelihood from their skills. Sports is a powerful tool for empowerment and national unity,” the President said.
The match has been widely billed as one of the most talked-about local boxing events, driven largely by the fighters’ viral fame and intense rivalry.
Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer rose to prominence through informal street boxing contests that captured national attention, turning them into household names and symbols of grassroots talent.
Their upcoming bout has since evolved into a major sporting spectacle, drawing interest beyond traditional boxing audiences.
Organisers of the fight say preparations are underway to ensure the event meets professional standards, with security, logistics, and fan experience being prioritised. The match is expected to attract a large turnout, cementing its place as a landmark moment in Kenya’s emerging boxing scene.
