Chief Justice Martha Koome is reportedly in the tense mode after Ghanian President John Mahama suspended the country’s Supreme Court Chief Justice, a move that experts believes will motivate President William Ruto to suspend her in coming days.
The Suspension came after several petitions were filed against Gettrude Tokornoo which called for her permanent removal. The Ghanian president has also directed that an investigation be launched against her.
This move has caused serious panic within the Kenyan Supreme Court especially at the CJ’s door step.
According to inner sources within the Kenya’s embattled CJ and the entire supreme court , the news from Ghana have exacerbated an already delicate situation at Kenya’s apex court.
Koome believes that the Ghanian President has set a bad example in the entire continent. The two judiciaries are joined at the hip.
Koome is battling several petitions that have called for her removal in courts.
” We request the JSC to compel President William Ruto to form a tribunal and begin the process of firing CJ Martha Koome over corruption, gross misconduct and misbehaviour, ” reads part of the petition filed at the JSC.
Sources within the JSC reveal that Everlyne Olwande, facing 2 others in her reelection bid, and Former Governor Isaack Rutto want the CJ out. Olwande was once the CJs buddy but now read from different scripts.
Koome’s Petition is one of its own as the body she heads (JSC) has called for her dismissal.
For instance , The JSC told the court that it wants to deal with Koome’s issues swiftly and decisively. She would have been suspended even before her counter parts in Ghana thanks to the current existing courts directions on her case.
Sources within some high ranks in government shows that CJ Koome may be on her way out.
” She better resign because all the plans to push her out are ready, there is no going back,” a source aware of the matter told this reporter
Our Judiciary sources wonder why she doesn’t want to appear before JSC is she’s clean. She has handpicked the expanded bench to hear her petition, patent conflict of interest and corruption.
