Octagon Africa has launched the Octagon Unit Trust, introducing five professionally managed investment funds aimed at expanding investment opportunities for Kenyans seeking to grow their wealth through diversified and regulated financial products.
The new Unit Trust comprises five investment funds tailored to different investor profiles, as the company moves to widen access to investment solutions beyond traditional pension savings and bank deposits.
The funds include the Octagon Money Market Fund (KES/USD), Fixed Income Fund, Equity Fund and Balanced Fund, offering investors professionally managed portfolios spanning money market instruments, government securities, corporate bonds and listed equities.
Speaking during the launch, Mwendwa Mutisya, Head of Asset Consulting and Unit Trust at Octagon Africa, said the new offering marks a significant milestone for the company as it broadens its wealth management portfolio.
“Octagon Africa has long been recognised as a trusted leader in long-term retirement savings and employee benefits solutions. The introduction of the Octagon Africa Unit Trust broadens our investment portfolio and reaffirms our commitment to helping both individuals and institutions achieve their financial aspirations at every stage of their financial journey,” said Mutisya.
He noted that more Kenyans are increasingly seeking investment products that match their financial goals and risk appetite.
“The Octagon Unit Trust provides professionally managed funds that cater for different investment objectives, making it easier for investors to grow their savings with confidence,” he added.
The Octagon Money Market Fund, available in both Kenya Shillings and US Dollars, invests in high-quality short-term instruments such as Treasury bills and fixed deposits, offering investors capital preservation, daily interest accrual and liquidity.
The company expects the fund to appeal to both local and diaspora investors, particularly as Kenya continues to receive strong diaspora remittances, which exceeded KES 650 billion over the 12 months to May 2026.
Meanwhile, the Fixed Income Fund focuses on Treasury bonds, corporate bonds and fixed deposits for investors seeking stable returns, while the Equity Fund targets long-term capital appreciation through investments in listed companies on the Nairobi Securities Exchange and regional markets.
The Balanced Fund combines money market, fixed income and equity investments to provide diversified returns for investors with a moderate appetite for risk.
Beyond the investment funds, the Unit Trust also offers goal-based investment solutions designed to help individuals save for education, home ownership, retirement and other long-term financial objectives.
Investors will also benefit from digital account management, investment planning tools, professional advisory services and dedicated investment products for SACCOs, chamas and family investment groups.
The Unit Trust was launched under the theme “Invest Today. Secure Tomorrow,” bringing together regulators, investment professionals and industry leaders to discuss the role of collective investment schemes in strengthening Kenya’s savings and investment culture.
Speaking during the event, David Kyalo, Senior Portfolio Manager at Old Mutual Kenya, underscored the importance of professional fund management in helping investors achieve their financial goals.
“Every investor has unique financial goals and a different appetite for risk. Professional fund management ensures investments are managed by experienced, licensed professionals while giving investors access to solutions that match their objectives,” he said.
The launch comes amid growing investor appetite for financial assets in Kenya, with recent Treasury bill and Treasury bond auctions attracting bids worth more than double the amounts on offer, signalling increasing confidence in the country’s investment market.
