Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been charged in Nairobi over allegations Sh10 million land fraud.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki, the legislator faced four charges conspiracy to defraud, forgery, obtaining land registration by false pretences, and uttering false documents.
According to the prosecution, Koimburi and others already before the court are accused of conspiring to defraud Julius Gitonga of a 1.3-hectare parcel of land in Ruiru valued at Sh10 million, allegedly committing the offence on or before March 2020.
Koimburi denied all charges. His legal team urged the court to grant him a free bond, arguing that he was not a flight risk and risked losing his parliamentary seat if he missed more than eight consecutive sittings. The defence further claimed that the MP had already settled the matter with the complainant and had petitioned the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to review the case.
Magistrate Ondieki released the MP on a cash bail of Sh100,000.
Koimburi’s co-accused, Shelmith Karungiri, has already secured her release on similar bail terms, while lawyer Gathii Irungu, also linked to the case, is said to be out of the country and is yet to take plea.
The case will proceed later next month.Juja
