Gachagua’s favourite for Olkarau By-election Promises Fresh Leadership

Singer and businessman Paul Waiganjo has officially joined the race for the Olkarau parliamentary seat, positioning himself as a reform-focused candidate championing transparency and education.

In an interview with Kururia TV, Waiganjo said his campaign will focus on improving access to quality education and ensuring accountable leadership that responds to the needs of residents.

“Education is the foundation of development. If elected, I will ensure our schools are well supported and that leadership remains transparent and people-driven,” he said.

Waiganjo said he is seeking to offer fresh leadership while building on the foundation laid by the late David Kiaraho, whose tenure he credited with initiating key development projects in the area.

He will vie for the seat on the Democrats for the Citizen Party (DCP) ticket, a party associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which has pledged to conduct transparent nominations ahead of the by-election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already set July 16 as the date for the by-election, following the official declaration of the seat as vacant by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

IEBC has appointed Anthony Muhia Njiraini as the Returning Officer, assisted by Maurine Chepkemoi Kisiero as Deputy Returning Officer.

Political parties have until May 4 to submit details of their authorized officials and aspirants, with party primaries expected ahead of the submission of nomination papers scheduled for May 25 and 26.

With the timelines now set, Waiganjo joins a growing list of aspirants expected to battle for the seat in what is shaping up to be a closely watched contest.
