Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced major infrastructure, education and housing projects in Kiambu Town, including a Sh29.2 billion road upgrade aimed at improving connectivity between Kiambu and Nairobi.

Speaking in Kiambu Town on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Kindiki said the government had awarded the contract for the dualling of the Muthaiga Roundabout–Kiambu Town road, with the contractor expected to commence works.

The project is expected to improve transport along the busy corridor, which serves thousands of residents commuting between Kiambu and Nairobi daily for employment, business and other economic activities.

“With many residents of Kiambu Town commuting for work and business to and from Nairobi daily, Kiambu town and Nairobi city have close proximity and intertwined business and trade ties,” Kindiki said.

The road project is among the government’s infrastructure investments targeting improved connectivity and economic activity in the rapidly growing Kiambu region.

Kindiki also highlighted investments in technical education, announcing that the former Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) had been elevated to a National Polytechnic.

A 1,740-bed student accommodation hostel is currently under construction at the institution at a cost of Sh672 million, a development expected to expand accommodation capacity for students pursuing technical and vocational training.

The project comes amid growing demand for technical skills and training opportunities, with institutions expected to play a key role in preparing young people for employment and entrepreneurship.

On housing, the Deputy President said 1,977 homes were being constructed in Kiambu Town under the government’s Housing Fund at a cost of Sh5.2 billion.

He added that projects worth Sh52 billion were underway across Kiambu County under the same programme, highlighting the scale of investment in affordable housing.

The housing programme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to expand access to homes while supporting construction-related economic activities and employment opportunities.

Kindiki urged residents to support the government’s development agenda, calling for peaceful political engagement and unity as the projects progress.

He cautioned against violence, division and political insults, urging leaders and residents to focus on development and constructive engagement.

The Deputy President’s remarks come as the government continues to promote infrastructure, housing and education investments as key pillars of its development agenda.

The success of the announced projects will depend on timely implementation, effective oversight and the delivery of the promised benefits to residents and businesses in Kiambu Town and the wider county.
