AAR Insurance Expands ‘A Tree, A Life’ Initiative with 55,000 New Trees Across Kenya

AAR Insurance has today announced a new phase of its nationwide tree-planting programme that will see the company plant over 55,000 trees across the country, reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainability under the INTENT campaign.

The new phase builds on the success of last year’s rollout, which saw more than 40,000 trees planted across 18 sites in seven regions, capturing an estimated 7,400 to 9,000 tonnes of carbon.

This year’s activities will include flagship sites such as Lenana School in Nairobi, Ngonyi Primary School in Meru, KMTC campuses in Kisumu, Eldoret, Kakamega, and Nakuru; Town Secondary School in Malindi; Sheikh Khalifa School in Mombasa; and the Queen of Rosary Comprehensive School in Thika.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Greenspace and other key stakeholders including KMTC and local county governments, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting environmental stewardship and community well-being nationwide.

Under the INTENT framework, ‘A Tree, A Life’ remains one of AAR Insurance’s flagship sustainability programmes. It operates on a simple yet powerful principle: for every insurance policy issued, a tree is planted. This approach turns each policy into a pledge for a greener future, supporting Kenya’s national goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, while fostering environmental awareness and sustainable livelihoods through partnerships with schools, counties, and community groups.

Introduced in 2023, the INTENT campaign guides AAR Insurance’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda—aligning business growth with responsible practices, transparency, and measurable environmental impact.

Speaking during the event, AAR Insurance CEO and Principal Officer, Justine Kosgei, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to sustainability:

> “A Tree, A Life is a living system that connects people, purpose, and the planet. Last year, our trees achieved a 93% survival rate—restoring biodiversity, cooling micro-climates, and reviving riverbanks like the Gathara River in Nyeri. Through INTENT, sustainability has become part of our DNA: measurable, transparent, and tied to our customers’ everyday actions.”

AAR Group Chief Financial Officer and Sustainability Lead, Hosea Kiprop, added:

> “The true power of this initiative lies in its ripple effect—it’s more than just planting. We’ve created employment through nurseries and site management, while engaging students and youth as the next generation of forest stewards. With INTENT, we ensure every tree is monitored, every partnership nurtured, and every lesson shared, delivering structured, long-term climate action and real value for our communities.”

In line with the government’s national afforestation efforts, AAR Insurance has pledged to maintain its commitment to tree planting as part of its broader ESG strategy. The company continues to collaborate with conservation experts, schools, and community partners to scale lasting environmental solutions and promote a culture of shared responsibility.
