Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said construction of the 67-kilometre Thika–Magumu Mau Mau road linking Kiambu and Nyandarua counties is on schedule, with 31 kilometres completed so far.
The KSh3.4 billion project is expected to improve transport connectivity between the two counties, easing the movement of people and goods while opening up areas served by the road.
Speaking during an inspection of government development projects in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Kindiki said the road forms part of a broader government programme to upgrade transport infrastructure across the county.
“The construction of the 67-kilometer Thika- Magumu Mau Mau Roads at a cost of 3.4 billion shillings is on schedule, with 31 kilometers of the road that connects Kiambu and Nyandarua Counties done,”he said.
The Deputy President said the project is among 1,285 kilometres of roads earmarked for tarmacking in Kiambu County under a programme valued at KSh152 billion.
He also highlighted plans to expand key transport corridors, including the Rironi–Mau Summit Road, the Thika–Nairobi Expressway and the Muthaiga–Kiambu dual carriageway, saying the projects would transform the county’s economy.

During the inspection, Kindiki directed supervisory personnel to ensure the works meet quality standards and are completed within the scheduled timelines.
He further emphasised the need to prioritise locally available labour and construction materials, a move intended to increase local participation in infrastructure development.
The Thika–Magumu road is expected to strengthen links between Kiambu and Nyandarua counties, potentially improving access to markets and reducing transport challenges for residents and businesses along the route.
Kindiki was accompanied by Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a and other local leaders during the inspection.
