Tension gripped Kolal Village in Mahola Uhuwi Sub-location, Siaya County.
This was after a suspected case of mob justice left one man dead and another seriously injured in the early hours of Friday morning.
According to a police report filed at Siaya Police Station under OB No. 04/11/10/2025 at 3:00 a.m., the incident was reported by a local resident, Jackson Owino.
Police officers swiftly responded to the scene, located about 14 kilometres south of the station, where they discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult and another man writhing in pain from serious injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a group of unknown youths, allegedly armed with crude weapons, was confronted by villagers who suspected them of criminal intent.
The confrontation reportedly turned violent when the youths began attacking the locals, prompting villagers to raise the alarm.
Reinforcements from the community responded and overpowered the suspects, subjecting them to mob justice.
One suspect died on the spot, while the other was rescued by Police officers who rushed them to Siaya County Referral Hospital in critical condition.
The deceased’s body was moved to the same hospital’s morgue pending post-mortem.
Two clubs believed to have been used during the confrontation were recovered from the scene and kept as exhibits.
Police have launched investigations into the incident, which remains under probe by DCI Siaya.
