Young people in Siaya are getting a chance to earn from the global digital economy through Siaya digital hub offering technology training, internet access and links to remote work.
The facility, founded by Siaya Senator and ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga and officially inaugurated by President William Ruto in March 2026, currently serves about 150 learners.
Powered entirely by solar energy, the hub has 200 computers and offers training in data analysis, digital marketing, cybersecurity, graphic design, video production, programming, web development and networking.
Most courses run for six months, equipping learners with practical skills they can use to seek jobs online or start their own digital businesses.

The hub also provides free public internet, a business incubator and co-working space to support young entrepreneurs. Its business process outsourcing (BPO) centre connects digital workers with local and international clients, giving them an opportunity to earn without having to move to major cities.
Siaya digital hub impact
According to Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, the initiative reflects the opportunities being created by the government’s Digital Superhighway programme under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The Siaya digital hub is also expanding its training programmes through Jaramogi Training College, a registered institution focusing on artificial intelligence that is expected to launch in November.
Partnerships with community-based organisations, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Siaya Branch and other stakeholders are expected to widen digital literacy and bring more residents into the digital economy.

The facility is also preparing to host the inaugural Nyanza Digital Summit from December 2 to 4, 2026, in collaboration with the Ministry and other stakeholders.
Omollo said the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration was supporting coordination among stakeholders to maintain security around the facility, protect critical digital infrastructure and promote cybersecurity awareness.
With digital skills increasingly opening doors to international employment, the Siaya hub aims to help young people access opportunities beyond their immediate communities while supporting the growth of technology-based businesses in the region.
