Kindiki Announces Milk Price Increase to KSh65 Per Litre Starting November

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that milk prices will increase to KSh65 per litre starting November 2026, in a move expected to raise earnings for dairy farmers.

Kindiki said the planned increase follows a rise in milk prices from KSh35 to KSh50 per litre over the past four years, as the government seeks to improve incomes across the coffee, tea and dairy value chains.

Speaking during a public engagement at Gachege Centre in Gatundu North Constituency, Kiambu County, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Deputy President said the government was progressively implementing measures to support agricultural production and improve farmers’ returns.

“Over the last four years, coffee cherry prices have risen from 60 to 150 shillings a kilo, while milk which was fetching 35 shillings a litre is now up to 50 shillings and will be increased to 65 shillings effective next month,” Kindiki said.

The proposed adjustment would raise the stated milk price by KSh15 per litre from the current KSh50, although the announcement did not specify whether the new rate would apply uniformly across all dairy buyers and collection centres.

Kindiki also highlighted reductions in the cost of farm inputs, saying a 50-kilogramme bag of fertiliser now costs KSh2,000, down from KSh7,000, while maize seed prices have dropped from KSh300 to KSh150 per kilogramme.

He further noted that sexed semen used in artificial insemination for dairy production was now available at KSh1,400 per dose, compared with a previous high of KSh8,000.

The measures, according to the Deputy President, form part of efforts to reduce production costs and improve returns for farmers, particularly those engaged in dairy and crop farming.

The remarks come as the government continues to highlight agricultural reforms and input subsidies as part of its efforts to support rural livelihoods. However, the extent to which individual farmers benefit from the announced price changes will depend on actual farm-gate payments, production costs and the prices offered by buyers.

Kindiki made the remarks while inspecting national government development projects in Gatundu North, where he also outlined ongoing investments in roads, markets, electricity connectivity and student accommodation.

He was accompanied by Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, 14 Members of County Assembly, professionals and local leaders.
