Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced the construction of a 580-bed hostel and an administration block at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kinangop Campus in Nyandarua County at a cost of Sh232 million.
The project, located in Tulaga, Kinangop Constituency, is part of the government’s efforts to expand accommodation and improve learning facilities in tertiary institutions across the country.
Kindiki said the government was also implementing a broader hostel construction programme targeting 180,000 beds for students in universities and tertiary institutions, including KMTCs, Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).
The programme seeks to address accommodation challenges facing students in post-secondary institutions while improving access to essential learning infrastructure.

Besides hostels, the government is upgrading workshops and lecture spaces as part of wider reforms aimed at improving learning conditions in tertiary institutions.
The reforms are also accompanied by an expansion of government funding beyond university students to include learners in KMTCs, TTIs and TTCs.
The 580-bed facility at Kinangop is expected to increase student accommodation capacity at the campus, potentially easing pressure on housing around the institution as enrolment grows.

The project adds to the government’s investment in technical and medical training infrastructure, with the broader programme targeting improved facilities and student support across different categories of tertiary institutions.
