Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced plans to rebuild 10 more schools in Laikipia County after 20 learning institutions in Laikipia West and Laikipia North were reconstructed following destruction or abandonment linked to banditry.
Speaking to residents of Ol Moran in Laikipia West Constituency on Monday, October 26, 2026, Kindiki credited security personnel with restoring calm in the area after bandits caused extensive damage to the region’s social and economic activities.
The Deputy President said the 20 schools had been rebuilt under the supervision of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel, while another 10 institutions were scheduled for reconstruction.

The school reconstruction programme comes as the government seeks to restore access to education in areas where insecurity disrupted learning and forced some institutions to close.
Kindiki also outlined a series of development projects targeting roads, electricity, agriculture and water infrastructure in Laikipia County.
He said 557 kilometres of roads had been earmarked for tarmacking at a cost of Sh28 billion, adding that the government intended to increase investment in road construction under its Usawa ni Sawa initiative.

On electricity connectivity, Kindiki said last-mile power projects were underway to connect an additional 4,200 households at a cost of Sh470 million. He added that the allocation and number of beneficiaries would be doubled as part of affirmative action for the county.
The Deputy President further said the government had subsidised fertiliser, certified seeds and sexed semen to support crop and livestock production and improve farmers’ incomes.
He also announced that Laikipia would be prioritised for funding of key water projects through the newly established National Infrastructure Fund (NIF).
The announced interventions place school reconstruction and security alongside infrastructure and agricultural support as key areas of government investment in Laikipia, with their impact depending on implementation and sustained stability in areas previously affected by banditry.
