Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced plans to tarmac 557 kilometres of roads in Laikipia County at a cost of Sh28 billion, with the government pledging to increase investment in road infrastructure under its Usawa ni Sawa initiative.
Kindiki made the announcement on Monday, October 26, 2026, while addressing residents of Ol Moran in Laikipia West Constituency, where he outlined the government’s development priorities for the county.
The planned road projects are expected to improve connectivity across Laikipia, ease the movement of agricultural produce to markets and support trade by linking rural communities to commercial centres.
Kindiki said the government would increase road construction investment to promote equity in the distribution of development resources, under the Usawa ni Sawa initiative.

The Sh28 billion allocation places road infrastructure among the key areas of planned government investment in Laikipia, a county where agriculture and livestock production are important economic activities.
Improved road networks could help farmers and livestock traders reduce transport challenges while improving access to markets, public services and other economic opportunities.
The announcement comes alongside other development commitments outlined by Kindiki during his visit, including school reconstruction, electricity connectivity and water projects.
The government has yet to provide a detailed breakdown of the 557 kilometres by individual road, implementation timelines and the distribution of the Sh28 billion allocation.
