The recent political shift involving Senator Edwin Sifuna has sparked significant backlash among Nairobi residents, who have labeled him a traitor following his alignment with the government during a joint UDA and ODM event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
Many took to social media to express their discontent, questioning his decision to remain as the ODM Secretary General while seemingly abandoning the constituents he once represented.
Comments from residents reflected a deep sense of betrayal, with one user stating, “We are shocked at what Senator Edwin Sifuna has done; he just used his tactics to betray us, and we are going to teach him a lesson.”
Another added, “Sifuna preaches water and drinks wine; we never thought he could betray us. Let lawyer Danstan Omari start warming up,” indicating a desire for accountability and potential political change.
Criticism of Sifuna extended to his leadership, with residents accusing him of contributing to corruption under Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration.
This sentiment was echoed by prominent city lawyer Danstan Omari, who expressed his surprise at the situation and the feeling of abandonment among Nairobians.
“Nairobians are on their own; the youths have been abandoned, and this is why I agreed to their call of being on the ballot in the next polls. We are going to bring sanity to the city,” Omari stated.
Omari also called on both President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga to leverage their partnership to improve the lives of Kenyans, emphasizing the need for collaboration to address the challenges facing the city and its residents.
The unfolding political dynamics in Nairobi suggest a growing demand for accountability and a shift in leadership as constituents seek representatives who align with their interests and needs.
