Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has outlined a series of infrastructure, housing, education and agricultural projects in Kabete Constituency, Kiambu County, as the government steps up investment aimed at boosting trade, creating jobs and improving livelihoods.

Speaking at Karura Ka Nyungu on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Kindiki said the government had allocated Sh330 million to upgrade the road network in the constituency to improve connectivity and support business activities.

He noted that Kabete was undergoing rapid infrastructure development, with investments targeting transport, markets, technical training and housing.

On trade, the Deputy President said five fresh produce markets were under construction at Muguga, Kahuho, Gikuni, Uthiru and King’eero, providing traders with improved facilities to conduct business.

He added that construction of the Wangige Modern Market would commence immediately, following the identification and mobilisation of a contractor.

The market projects are part of the government’s wider efforts to improve trading infrastructure and create better working conditions for small-scale traders and fresh produce vendors.

In education and sports, Kindiki said construction of a Sports Academy at Kanjeru Primary and Junior School was underway at a cost of Sh55 million.

The facility is expected to strengthen sports development among learners while expanding opportunities for talent identification and training.

The Deputy President also highlighted investment in technical and vocational education, saying construction of the Karura Ka Nyungu Technical Training Institute was ongoing at a cost of Sh70 million.

The institution is expected to expand access to technical skills training, equipping young people with practical competencies for employment and entrepreneurship.

On agriculture, Kindiki said dairies in Kabete had recently benefited from the distribution of milk coolers, following the allocation of 14 units across Kiambu County.

He said another round of distribution was planned for early 2027, with additional beneficiaries expected to receive the equipment.

The milk coolers are intended to support dairy farmers and businesses by improving milk handling and preservation, potentially reducing post-harvest losses and strengthening the dairy value chain.

Housing also featured prominently in the government’s development plans for the constituency, with 1,746 houses under construction at the Kabete Social Protection Housing Project at a cost of Sh4.6 billion.

The project forms part of the government’s broader housing programme, which seeks to expand housing supply while supporting construction-related employment and economic activity.

Addressing residents at Karura Ka Nyungu, Kindiki urged them to support the government’s development agenda and reject divisive political rhetoric.

He called for inter-community harmony and urged residents to resist the spread of drugs and illicit alcohol while promoting positive values in society.

The Deputy President’s visit placed emphasis on development across multiple sectors, including roads, agricultural markets, education, dairy production and housing.

The impact of the projects will depend on timely completion and effective implementation, as residents and businesses await improved infrastructure and expanded economic opportunities across Kabete Constituency.
